The Old Bohemian Homestead Christmas Plan
How fun to roll out Christmas cookies with someone you love! The kitchen smells wonderful while you bake them. But decorating your cookies is the hard part, right? After the time, effort, and mess of mixing, rolling, cutting out, and baking Christmas cookie dough, fussing with icing, nonpareils, and tiny pieces of candy can seem like too much work.
The same problem applies to putting together a breakfast casserole or baking some sort of sweet roll for Christmas morning. Each year my family looks forward to copycat Cinnabon rolls with eggs and breakfast meat on the side. I make them ahead so I can enjoy Christmas Eve and morning without the stress of making them.
Taking time to mix and freeze your dough ahead of time pays off in December. Some cookies can be baked now and thawed later. Royal frosting and fondant freezes well, so you can even decorate your Christmas cookies now if you want. I wait for December to decorate my Christmas cookies because that’s part of the fun for my family.
