Janalyn Voigt's literary education began in childhood when her father read chapters from classic children's books to her as bedtime stories. She grew older, and the bedtime stories stopped, but Janalyn continued to fall asleep to the stories she made up in her head at night. This, combined with her avid consumption of books, gave Janalyn an intuitive grasp of storytelling. Adventure, romance, history, suspense, and fantasy or whimsy appear in every story she writes. Readers who enjoy Janalyn's vivid descriptions, realistic dialogue, and unpredictable plots often follow her across genres. Janalyn Voigt is represented by Wordserve Literary Agency. Ideas come to me in different ways. Sometimes they arrive out of the blue (I love when that happens). Other things that can set off ideas for me are someone's casual comment, a news story, a picture, an idle reflection, or people watching. :o)

How the idea for my Tales of Faeraven series formed is an example of my creative process. It started as a story I made up to entertain my bored young daughter while on a road trip. Long after she'd forgotten the story, it stayed with me, growing and evolving over a space of years.

Writers sometimes liken giving birth to a story with the biological process, and that's not far off.(less)

Finding Serenity in a Crazy World

Sometimes reflecting on the world’s sorrows breaks my heart. Political and societal strife sets my teeth on edge. Economic distress, environmental disasters, wars and rumors of war–there appears no shortage of woes. Finding serenity seems difficult, if not impossible. Perhaps you share my quest for peace of mind. Here’s what I’ve discovered on my journey … Continue reading Finding Serenity in a Cr

“He dismounted and lifted his arms to Shae. Light as she was, he had to step backward when she leaned into him. He steadied them both, and then turned to instruct the groom. When Kai looked for her again, Shae was gone. A smile touched his mouth as he went through an archway in the inner curtain wall. He would keep his knowledge of Shae’s morning activities to himself. (from DawnSinger)”

“Mottled light swept the garden, creating an
illusion of movement. The air rippled, on the edge of hearing, with the bittersweet song of a wingen.”
