I imagine that money has a lot to do with it. A luxury line loaded with wealthy people makes news for a lot longer than a ship of soldiers. Sad, but true.

That could be true, Donna. The fate of Union POW’s on their way home from the Andersonville death camp might not have the same pull as some of the wealthy passengers on the Titanic. President Lincoln’s assassination also eclipsed the Sultana disaster in the news.

I’ve never heard of the Sultana disaster. How interesting! And sad at the same time. I wonder if the remembrance difference between that disaster and the Titanic came down to the passenger list. Thanks for this great piece of history!
